lenders continue to move cautiously waiting out
the recession, three unconventional multi-family
sectors—student housing, transit-oriented
development (TOD), and workforce housing—are
poised to become viable alternatives to standard
multi-family developments. Demographic trends
(namely the Echo Boom) suggest that all three
will play an increasingly larger role in the
industry over the next decade. According to
Jones Lang LaSalle, 77% of New Economy companies
rate access to transit as important. |

Home Prices Strong
According to the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University,
pre-owned home sales were up
11% in March 2013 compared to a year ago and median home prices were up 5 percent. Condo and townhouse sales were up
30% over the previous year. |
