Existing home sales in the South rose nearly 14% in Q4 of 2012. According to Lawrence Yun, National Association of Realtors chief economist, affordable markets in the South that already have relatively better local economies -- such as Houston, Oklahoma City, and Shreveport, Louisiana -- are seeing healthy price gains in in home values.
